While stunt riders in Spain are few and far between, those who stunt, do it right. Style, speed and insanity marks a true Spanish stunt rider and Javi Almazan Lopez is someone setting the bar for riding in both his own country and the global scene. Check out what goes down in Javi's stuntlife.
Name: Javi Almazan Lopez
Location: Born in Torello - Spain
Years riding: I’ve been stunting for eight years.
Bikes: Kawasaki ZX6r, Honda F4i, Sherco Trials Bike
Favorite stunt: My favorite stunts are for sure straight line combos.
Favorite food: I love cake.
Favorite place in the world: My favorite place is La Vall d'Aran (in Northwestern Spain).
What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while riding: The strangest situation was at the “MotoGP Streets”. During this event bikes are everywhere at night doing illegal things. I was messing around on my bike until the police came by and stopped me. Then some people who had been watching hit one of the cops and knocked his hat off, when he bent over to pick it up they kicked him in the ass! Everyone else was screaming BS at the other policemen. I was scared naturally, since my bike was there and had plates on it in clear sight. I’m telling the people to please stop, but they just continued. Finally I drop to my knees screaming and telling these people to stop. Finally the people stop and the police tell me to go away with them, they said to get out of the streets and if there were any more stunts, people were going to prison.
StuntBums: How did you start stunting?
Javi Almazan Lopez: I really have been riding since I was a child, I was wheelie-ing mountain bikes, doing circles on the bike, working up from a quarter circle to a full circle without putting the bike down. Year after year I kept training on the mountain bike then the motorbikes finally came. After the MotoGP Streets, riding illegally on the streets just for fun, everyone liked what I was doing and my skills so much, I thought I could really do this seriously, as a sport.
StuntBums: Which riders are your inspirations?
Javi Almazan Lopez: I like so many riders, but my top favorite is Nick Apex
StuntBums: What is your favorite event or experience you have had from stunting?
Javi Almazan Lopez: My best experience is “Stunt Jump” in Russia.
StuntBums: What is your favorite stunt part on your motorcycle and why?
Javi Almazan Lopez: My favorite part on the bikes is the gas, because when i turn the throttle I’m gonna be stoked.
StuntBums: What trick are you working on right now?
Javi Almazan Lopez: I haven’t perfected my next trick, but when I do, StuntBums will be the first to know.
StuntBums: How is stunting in Spain?
Javi Almazan Lopez: In Spain we have the normal shows, big sessions with lots of bikes and motorshows. There really are not a lot of riders here, but we have a ton of skill and talent in Spain. We all get along well and try to meet up for sessions together, depending on how far we are from each other. Undoubtedly the WORST part of stunting in Spain is the police, we don’t have legal spots and we really have issues with the police. Also our sponsor situation is a not the best, they try to help, but can’t provide much for us.
StuntBums: What advice do you have for new riders trying to learn stunts in Spain?
Javi Almazan Lopez: Don’t get obsessed with training if you’re not learning.
StuntBums: Tell us about your ultimate “stunt dream.”
Javi Almazan Lopez: My stuntdream is to do a mega session in New York with all the USA gangster riders. I know they are not all in NY, but it seems like a great spot to film. Maybe do a trip visiting American riders and then hit NY for a street sesh.
