For Daytona Beach Bike Week 2011, XDL brought the entourage...and the calvary. The event was extended to be four days of non-stop stunting, from pro's to amateurs, from street riders to lot bums, this XDL had something for everyone. While unfortunately, we could not make it to the event, we were able to get the Squidwheelies.com crew to assist us in continuing to provide you complete coverage from the event. From our perspective (granted we are sitting on our ass in France) Daytona XDL runs for the most part weren't exactly ground breaking. Shin was the only rider with obvious new and ballsy acro's, Kyle Rapport and Nick Apex owned the wheelie game and beyond that we felt that we saw the same runs from last year. Luke "Duke" Emmons nailed an amazing run with excellent choreography as usual, but our hope is this season he uses his riding ability to take more risks that could bump him past his competition (Bill and Nick, both no strangers to risk). Yamaha athlete Bill Dixon's no-handed bunny hops were notable (to say the least) and he did an amazing job of using the whole surface, overall he is pushing his R6 to new limits and defining a very entertaining style of riding. We were sad to see Ernie Vigil held back by what sounded like a bike about to blow up, hopefully we we him on a fresh motor at the Arizona stop. Bubash seemed to be having a very off night as he struggled through his final run, normally one of the most polished riders and strong in all categories. Kyle Rapport, a rider who is constantly evolving, is really showing us the definition of "freestyle" as he seems to recover with style from any bobble when he is in the spotlight. Shin's acro was bananas! I think starting standing on the cage is key, I kept trying from the pegs and was getting nowhere.
Nick, now that half of the competitors are trying to do switchback coffin zeros, give them some new stuff to copy!
Nice Anthony!
