Individual Freestyle at French Stunt Games Round 1
This past weekend Bordeaux, France hosted one of the first attempts at establishing a French Championship series. The whole world has heard of the inconceivable talent that graces the stunt spots across France, but until now we have not got to see the riders go head to head in a real competition. The French Stunt Games will see four events throughout 2011 and hopefully build themselves a strong series for the future. We traveled from Southern France to peep the action and record beaucoup de media for you all to see what went down.
There were 67 riders who attempted to qualify on the rainy Saturday of the event. Julien Welsch threw down the most memorable qualifying run on his Triumph in an epic downpour, making him first in the group of 35 riders who qualified to ride for Sunday. Sunday with the grace of the sun each rider had four minutes to wow an eager crowd, who cheered like crazy along the fence of the long track. Julien Welsch and Romain Jeandrot battled for first with very different styles, Romian ended up moving up to first with his wild-man style and crazy fast combos.
In the end, the top 5 were as follows:
- Romain Jeandrot
- Julien Welsh "Razerback"
- Thibault Torchy "Tibostunt"
- Ludovic Soulignac "Skyz"
- Anthony Bressirard
While the event undoubtedly had areas that could have used improvement, for the most part it ran smoothly, riders kept the crowd happy and France took a step in the right direction in developing their own stunt championship series. Check the results, video, photos, longest endo video and stay tuned for a 5D clip from the trip coming this week!
